13th Salzburg Mountain Film Festival
“Adventure Mountain – Film Event”
Accompanied by an extraordinary program the 13th Mountain Film Festival will take place in DAS KINO Salzburg, starting the 16th of November. Within the following 16 days the two cinematic theatres in DAS KINO will again be the meeting point of the Western Austrian and the Bavarian Mountaineers and also of international Top Alpinists.
This year’s Highlights are two of the world-famous alpinists and climbers: We are able to welcome as lecturers and as our guests DOUG SCOTT as well as LYNN HILL .
The US-American Lynn Hill is one of the world’s best climbers, who with her extraordinary skills has already reached a very special place in alpine history.
It is long since that Doug Scott can be named a real legend of the international alpine scene. Together with Chris Bonington he has immortalized himself in the books of history in 1977 by being the first to ascend the Mount Ogre, a 7285 m mountain that is claimed to be the most difficult in the world.
Amongst others there are even more prominent names on our guestlist: The author CHRISTOPH RANSMAYR is going to read from his new novel “Der fliegende Berg”; Africa-expert SEPP FRIEDHUBER will present his book on the immense mountains of Africa; Mountaineering expert GERHARD OSTERBAUER is going to lecture about the Antarctica; EDI KOBLMÜLLER will report on Kamtschatka, one of the last nearly unspoilt landscapes of the earth; we expect Top-climber STEPHAN SIEGRIST as well as meteorologist and avalanche-expert MICHAEL STAUDINGER, photographer and mountain guide HERBERT RAFFALT and the three Austrian Mountaineering legends HELMA SCHIMKE, NORMAN DYHRENFURTH and KURT DIEMBERGER, our lecturer in residence.
Regarding the cineastic highlights the range is widespread this year: from films of the prize-winning director GERHARD BAUR (“Nanga Parbat”) to the British director SASHA SNOW, winner of the Grand Prize 2006 in Trento (“Arctic Crime and Punishment”, “Conflict Tiger”).
We will show portraits of the cycling team CSC, starting at the Tour de France (“Overcoming”), of the famous American climber JIM BRIDWELL (“The American Living Legend”) and of ski-artist DOMINIQUE PERRET (“Lignes de Pente”). The touching story about two young boys in the silver mines of Bolivia will be part of the supporting program (“The Devil’s Miner”).
